From Knowledge to Action: AfriVacx’s Capacity-Building Session Equips Healthcare Professionals to Champion Hepatitis B Prevention

On 23rd July 2026, AfriVacx held a virtual capacity-building session for young pharmacists and other healthcare professionals supporting its World Hepatitis Day campaign.

The session brought together pharmacists working across the Ministry of Health, hospitals and community pharmacies. Participants received practical guidance on hepatitis B prevention, vaccination, patient education and how to address common myths and misconceptions about vaccines.

Sharing her experience, Pharmacist Benita of the Federal Medical Centre, Anambra, said:

“I learnt a better way to correct patients’ misconceptions about vaccines and communicate accurate vaccine information.”

The post-training survey showed strong results. Eighty-three per cent of respondents gave the session a five-star rating, while 100% identified important lessons they had gained from the training. Every participant also reported feeling better prepared and more confident to educate patients and community members about hepatitis B.

The capacity-building programme is an important part of AfriVacx’s commitment to equipping healthcare professionals with the knowledge and communication skills required to improve vaccine confidence and increase hepatitis B vaccination uptake.
